The tension peaked on Saturday at the European Archery Grand Prix 2025 in Arnhem as the top compound archers battled through the elimination rounds, culminating in the selection of finalists for Sunday’s gold and bronze medal matches. With several matches decided by just a single point, or even by tiebreak, he road to the finals proved brutal, technical, and highly entertaining.
Bosansky delivers on favorite roll
Dutch favorite Stef Willems, who qualified first with 688, posted a strong 144 in his 1/8 final but was edged out in the quarterfinals with a 139 by Martin Vanek (CZE), who went on to win his semifinal match with 145 and secured a spot in the final. Joannes Poulsen (Faroe Islands) showed nerves of steel with scores of 142, 146, and 146 in his march to the gold medal match, defeating Henning Luepkemann (GER) and then Vanek in a high-stakes semifinal. The second finalist, Jozef Bosansky (SVK), showed tremendous form in the early knockouts and maintained momentum in the semifinal with a 146 win over Marco Seri (ITA), who himself had advanced by scoring a 147 in the 1/8 round and 145 in the quarterfinals.
On saturday Joannes Poulsen (FRO) will face Jozef Bosansky (SVK) for gold. In the battle for bronze Marco Seri (ITA) will shoot against Martin Vanek (CZE).
Notably, Sil Pater (NED) impressed with a 146 and 144 in his first two matches but fell just short of the semis. He finishes 5th, the highest Dutch male in the eliminations.


Triple german strength in compound wonen
The women’s eliminations were a showcase of dominance , particularly from the German and Danish contingents. In the quarterfinals, Katharina Raab (GER) scored 143, followed by another 143 in the semifinals, each time advancing on inner-10 count. Denmark’s Sofie Louise Dam Marcussen mirrored that path with consistent 140+ scores, peaking with a semifinal 143 (10 inner-10s) to edge Marie Marquardt (GER), who had matched the 143 but fell short on tie-break count. In the other half of the bracket, Jennifer Walter (GER) shot a 147 in her quarterfinal, the highest score of the round, before falling in the semifinal against Raab with another strong 143.
With three german archers in the last four Katharina Raab (GER) will shoot for gold against Sofie Marcussen (DEN). The bronze medal will go to Germany for sure with Marie Marquardt (GER) shooting against Jennifer Walter (GER).
Among Dutch participants, Fenna Stallen showed promise after the qualification but with a 139 win in the 1/8 final she got eliminated by Giulia Di Nardo (ITA), who scored 146 in the quarterfinal. Jessie van den Munckhof also advanced to the 1/8 but exited with a 140–143 loss against Raab.
Host nation The Netherlands aiming for gold
The recurve men’s division delivered some of the most intense head-to-heads of the tournament, culminating in a final that sees home favorite Senna Roos (NED) take on Federico Musolesi (ITA) for gold.
Dutchman Senna Roos, a standout throughout the week, will shoot for gold after a strong quarterfinal win over the Belgian Feel Stinkens and an intense semifinal against Patrick Huston (GBR). Musolesi showed powerful consistency, defeating Switzerland’s Thomas Rufer (6–2) and continuing that streak against Erik Rowbotham (GBR), also with 6–2, to secure his place in the gold final. Patrick Huston, seeded second, worked his way through 6–5 victories, including Adam Li from Czechia before facing Senna Roos. Erik Rowbotham (GBR) defeated two Dutchmen on home soil but lost his semifinal against Federico Musolesi.
Dutch teammate Yaël Smeets also impressed, reaching the quarterfinals and finishing 6th overall. Another Dutch archer, Kay van Laarhoven, advanced to the 1/8 finals before bowing out in a 0–6 match against eventual finalist Musolesi.
Healey will face dominating Germany’s Schwarz
Penny Healey (GBR) heads into the final with unwavering form, having overcome close duels with scores of 6–4, 6–2, and 6–0 in the earlier rounds. Her final opponent in the gold final on Saturday will be Charline Schwarz from Germany. Charline Schwarz defeated Dutch Laura van der Winkel in the quarterfinal before securing the gold medal match in the semifinal against Veronika Marchenko (UKR).
Ukraine’s Veronika Marchenko, who advanced after an impressive streak in the eliminations with two clean 6–0 wins until the semifinal against Charline Schwarz. In the fight for bronze, she will shoot against Italian Chiara Rebagliati, who had to start her eliminations against fellow Italian Tatiana Andreoli. After an impressive win against top-seeded Katharina Bauer (GER), she lost the semifinal against Penny Healey.
Dutch archer Laura van der Winkel earned a remarkable 6th place finish after 6–4 and 6–2 wins in the 1/16th and 1/8th finals before losing the quarterfinal against Charline Schwarz.
Individual scores make way for teams on Thursday
The tournament will continue on Thursday with the men’s and women’s team eliminations before doing that again on Friday for the mixed teams.
